In the NTF, we use ranks to represent experience, responsibility and authority. There are ranks which are based on Merit, with ranks denoting experience and veterancy in the current billet. Our ranks are loosely based on the US Army, following the NATO rank scale.
Promotions are handed to personnel who meet the requirements whilst serving in their billet. Requirements vary from billet to billet, but the common requirement is the activity.
Definitions:
ATIG: Active Time in Grade — Total time spent in current grade whilst being a regular and active member without failing to meet attendance requirements.
ATIU: Active Time in Unit — Overall total time spent in the unit, regardless of breaks and inactivity.
CTIG: Combined Time in Grade — Total time spent in current grade whilst being a regular and active member, combining multiple periods of activity where ATIG is unable to be met.
Billets are positions that denote responsibility, authority and duties within the NTF. Find out more about billets.
Waivers may be given to fast track personnel to the minimum required rank to join a course upon request by J-Shop staff to Battalion HQ. Upon being given a waiver, the individual will have to make up their time in grade and time in unit till they have reached their current ranks' requirements. E.g. A Private wishes to fast track to Corporal to billet as a Section Commander. Once a Sergeant, the Sergeant will have to accrue ATIU and CTIG from Private to Corporal in addition to the Staff Sergeant requirements.
For enlisted personnel, rank promotion requirements are only dependant on activity within the unit and time spent in grade over any period.
